Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode for BAMG Radio, we politick with Connecticut rapper Sikai. Sikai discusses how he survived two car accidents, battled through an addiction to pain medication, and turned the experience into the Painkilling Music Group.

Artist Bio:

Sikai is a 24-year old rap artist from Stamford, Connecticut currently building his reputation in
the Tri-State for his quick-fire cadences, genre-bending production, and most importantly his story.

The Painkilling Music Group’s frontman chooses to create organic music made to experience
through his live shows and unique visual concepts. Growing up during the 90’s, Sikai and his
older sibling experienced the culture which was dominated countless by avant-garde music
videos, hood comedies and cassette tapes though their mother wanted to shield them from the
common adult messages in the music.

Sikai began recording and sharing his music while still in middle school. The culture of rap
battles were popularized during the early 2000’s through SMACK dvds and 106 & Park’s
“Freestyle Fridays”. Though a teenager during that period, Sikai’s began to gain some traction
in his hometown for battling. When the digital era hit, and offered new do-it-yourself capabilities
Sikai choose to focus on releasing mixtapes. His early projects were released while he was still
in high school.

In the last days of 2009, DJ Rated-R hosted “Gooney Tunes Volume 1” mixtape which proved
to be a beneficial move in getting local attention for Sikai. “Shoulda Been An Album” was hosted
by DJ Ill Will, and resulted in regional shows and a fair amount of online press. While building
upon the success of these projects Sikai was involved in a serious car accident. Physically
injured from the collision, Sikai was forced to slow down on his music and rehabilitate. As with
many people going through rehabilitation periods Sikai became dependent on pain killers. Even
as Sikai began to heal, do more shows, and record new music his physical dependency of pills
became an addiction. This early stage in his extreme dependency was the inspiration for his
next project entitled, “Painkillers & Energy Drinks”. The mixtape was hosted by DJ Whoo Kid in
the Spring of 2011, and features collaborations with French Montana, Joe Budden, Dublin and
Rich Hil.

What happens when tragedy strikes twice? In the second-half 2011, Sikai was involved in
another car crash. This forced relapse took the rising artist’s addiction to a new level. Before he
could do serious damage to himself Sikai received a wake-up call, and began the never-ending
road to recovery. The formation of the Painkilling Music Group was the direct manifestation of
Sikai’s new direction. Sikai encourages people to use personal passions to combat the many
afflictions that life may bring. With a fresh mind and new purpose Sikai and the Painkilling Music
Group is set to capture more eyes and ears with his next concept mixtape, “Painkilling: 1500mg” which was released on KevinNottingham.com.

Artist Spotlight - Jesse Abraham Pt 2.

Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we are rejoined by Brooklyn emcee Jesse Abraham.

Artist Biography:

Two-time UMA nominee Jesse Abraham was born in Manhattan as the first child to two public school teachers. He grew up in the downtown neighborhood of Tribeca, raised on the city’s hip-hop culture and the eight-track tapes his parents introduced him to as a youngster. At five years old, Jesse was writing and, by the time he was nine, recording demos on cassette tapes. The authenticity of his music now reflects his growing up in New York in the ‘80s, right alongside the groundbreaking hip-hop of Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys. He quickly developed an affinity for rhyming, wordplay and rhythm, walking the halls of his Hebrew school reciting lyrics by KRS-1 or A Tribe Called Quest.

Between the ages of 10-14 Jesse lost his father, an uncle and two of his best friends in unrelated incidents, turning towards writing to cope with the tragedies. A published poet at the age of 15, Jesse suddenly realized his true passion was for hip-hop, inspired by such artists as KRS-1, Kool G. Rap and OutKast. However, it wasn’t until he went to college at Atlanta’s Emory University as a philosophy major that he began to realize that he wasn’t just writing lyrics, he was composing songs.

While at school, Jesse formed the group BTU with a pair of friends. They recorded a demo that resulted in a series of performances, including opening for Public Enemy at B.B. King’s in Times Square. After transferring to Emerson College in Boston, Jesse joined Preacherfunk, a hip-hop band with a following throughout New England. Upon graduating and moving to Brooklyn, Jesse founded a tutoring company of which he is still the managing director. By the summer of 2009, Jesse Abraham began to attract considerable attention on the open-mic circuit and in the online world of hip-hop, winning numerous freestyle competitions and establishing his rep. Mixtapes he released such as Alphabutter (Jan ’10) and XS (Feb ’10) only increased the buzz.

His 2010 debut album, Bars & NoBull (Oct. ’10) spent weeks on DJBooth.net’s Top 10 Charts, and the singles ‘Yoga’ and ‘Little Bit of Everything’ were major hits in the underground and their respective videos were YouTube successes. Jesse spent much of 2010 promoting these projects on countless blogs and radio shows, until he was ready to record and release One Day in 2011. The project’s lead single, ‘Spiderman on Vitamins’, made major waves throughout the online world of music, peaking at #3 on DJBooth.net’s reputable Top 10 Singles chart. The album features the single ‘Always & Forever ft. Homeboy Sandman’, which premiered on XXLMag.com and the follow-up single ‘Words Past the Margin ft. Blu’ which premiered on NahRight.com.

Debuting at #5 on DJBooth’s Top 10 Charts, the album was recently nominated for Indie Album of the Year at the Underground Music Awards, along with JA’s nomination for Lyricist of the Year.
More than just an emcee, Abraham also contributes to the hip-hop culture as a producer, marketing consultant and concert organizer. He has produced shows in multiple cities through his Skill or Be Skilled production company, has performed in over 50 venues on the east coast, including sold out shows at Joe’s Public Theater and Southpaw, and has participated actively at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas and the CMJ Music Festival in NYC year after year. He continues to reinvent the responsibilities a hip-hop artist holds, and his potential is only surpassed by his passion for the genuine essence of his genre. But if you ask him, he simply aspires to inspire.

But if you ask him, he simply aspires to inspire.</itunes:summary>

Artist Biography:

Iyadonna is from Roxbury, MA. Starting as early as 2000, Iyadonna was writing and recording with DJ Clinton Sparks and receiving radio play across the nation. What You Think/What Did You Say produced by Clinton Sparks was a college radio success and even got some mainstream recognition. A few years later Iyadonna teamed up with another producer in California and began to write for his artist. He was so impressed he then offered Iyadonna a chance to record some music of her own. Iyadonna excepted but was soon accepted to Norfolk State University in Virginia. She would attend and stay in Virginia working as a radio personality on Hot 91FM for the next four years until she graduated in 2009. Iyadonna then moved to New York city to concentrate on her music full time. Releasing Respect in 2009, it was picked up by Music Choice, gaining fans all around the country.

The Iyadonna buzz was spiking in the right direction. Iyadonna decided to stop using her writing talents for other artists but to start branching out and incorporating vocals into her music. By 2009 Iyadonna wrote and recorded Dance Floor and soon after in 2010 the very successful up tempo dance track titled Be Myself. The remix to Be Myself featured the 2 time Grammy nominated party king Fatman Scoop, again igniting Iyadonna's name even more. The song continues to be a huge success, not just the remix but the original, receiving commercial spins across the country and going strong on itunes, Amazon, and more. Since then Iyadonna has released numerous singles on itunes & Amazon, including Antidote (produced by the BAR Group), and most recently Emotions produced by Hott Scott Music. Iyadonna continues to light up stages everywhere and has performed at SOBs New York for the Zulu Nation 38th anniversary party, House Of Blues, Bum Squad Dj retreat Las Vegas, UCONN and more.

IYADONNA has a NEW EP called Occupy The Industry available now! Also, the latest mixtape The SheMixes is available on-line and in hard copy if ordered. Iyadonna has worked with such artists as: Akrobatik, Reks, Dutch Rebelle, Fatman Scoop, Chubby Chub, Tashawn King, Lady Luck, Mark Merren, JV the Rap-singer, Reggie Hills, DJ Roy Barboza, E!'s Clinton Sparks and more. Now Iyadonna is preparing to release her first LP titled The Melnea Cass Project due out this fall. She is now working with DJ Power of the Zulu Nation/Cold Crush Bro's and continuing to ignite stages. Big things are in the works for Iyadonna aka Melnea Cass so please keep your ear to the streets! This is a movement hunny!

Artist Spotlight - Perfekt

Artist's Bio:

Perfekt, of the group Perfekt & Chance has just taken a step forward to embark on the release of his first solo effort. Nobody's Perfekt will debut early 2013 with the release of his first single "New Me" . This solo effort, Perfekt will give you a glimpse into his life, past and present, with songs like "Back Home" where he reminisces of High School days growing up in Brooklyn, New York. Other songs like "Soul Mate" will display a more emotional side and show the growth over the years in his music. While a more mature sound, the beats are still the heavy bass, headbanging tracks you have grown to love. Managing to always have his ear to the streets, Perfekt stays in tune with the young and upcoming styles and continues to display his diversity throughout Nobody's Perfekt. Stay tuned in 2013 for the full album, a guaranteed Must Hear!

      <itunes:summary>Artist's Bio:

Stay tuned in 2013 for the full album, a guaranteed Must Hear!</itunes:summary>

He is releasing his first music project, House Shoes & Gold Watches, November 22, 2012. On the Kush & Orange Juice tour with Wiz Khalifa and his good friend and new Taylor Gang artist Tuki Carter formerly of Hollyweerd, Big Cheeko realized he needed a creative outlet of his own. He returned to Atlanta determined to showcase his own art. The first song he recorded after the tour was entitled Moonshine. The engineer that recorded the song, Cope Till, told Big Cheeko that he could not just put this one song out by itself. He needed to build a project around it, because Moonshine was something different.

After more recording time a young lady told Cheeko he should name the project after the house shoes and gold watches he always wore in the studio. And thus an outlet had opened up. House Shoes & Gold Watches is the platform for Big Cheeko to make his first appearance as an artist by doing something different than everyone else. Now in Atlanta, Big Cheeko will release this project, and continue working keen on a quick follow-up.

Opening for acts such as Nicki Minajj, Wiz Khalifa, and Maino has given C-PO the opportunity to
prove to his fans that he has what it takes to outshine some of the most popular artists out there.
His energy and performance alone has helped him gain the respect and attention of the many
naysayers. It's rare that a recording artist has 6 records out the box that have affected a great
number of people; but who can blame him for his alluring success. Like many legends, C-PO is a
gifted talent who will for sure leave a phenomenal mark in music for years to come.

His ever growing buzz has landed him performances on BET’s 106&Park and the
nationally renowned SXSW Festival, as well as gigs at The House of Blues and opening up
for Game, J. Cole, Tyga and Slick Rick.

Just recently, DEEzo dropped the 15-track project 22 Summers which contains features from
Kid Ink and Ahmad The Entertainer. The mixtape also captures the young wordsmith
showing his vocal range, paying homage to the old school soul and blues artists who helped
map the hip-hop landscape.

Currently crafting his biggest and most personal project to date, Ten10Eighty7, due for a
Fall 2012 release, DEEzo is hoping for a chance to give the world a different side of Cali, one
that’s not portrayed in the movies or in gangsta raps.
